Their safe use depends on the user’s awareness of their potential hazards and the user’s willingness to take all necessary precautions to avoid bodily harm.

We urge you to carefully read the safety instructions included with your laser and to strictly adhere to recommended precautions. If this information is unavailable, contact the manufacturer of your laser and obtain additional copies of these instructions. Make sure that everyone who works with the laser is aware of potential safety hazards, and that all users possess and use appropriate laser safety eyewear.

General safety measures include:

• Wear eye protection appropriate to the wavelengths of light with which you are working.
• Ensure that appropriate curtains enclose the laser work area.
• Post appropriate safety signs on the entrances to all rooms in which the laser is located.
• Install locks on all entrances into the laser room, with keys only in the possession of those authorized to work with the laser.
• Complete laser safety training for all those working with the laser.
